The Most Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Implants – Answered!

At Sol Dental, Dr. Jaclyn Orozco is an expert when it comes to dental implants. She has placed hundreds of implants for patients all throughout Tempe. If you’re interested in a dental implant, you’re in the right place.

Though dental implants are a common procedure, you may still have quite a few questions. We’ll talk about some of the most common FAQs here. If you still have questions, you can contact Dr. Orozco by scheduling an appointment at Sol Dental.

Why Should I Choose A Dental Implant Instead Of Partial Dentures Or A Dental Bridge?

Dental implants are the most natural looking (and natural feeling) replacement for a missing tooth. They do not slip or move when you talk, eat, or speak because they are totally permanent.

In a two-part procedure, the dental implant is placed and restored over the course of a few months. First, the post, made of titanium or zirconium, is implanted in place of your missing tooth’s root. The crown, an artificial tooth, is then permanently attached to the post, completing the dental implantation process. The result is a tooth restoration that looks and feels totally natural, and will last a lifetime with proper care.

Will My Dental Implant Be Covered By Insurance?

This is completely dependent on your insurer.

It’s always best to understand what your insurance covers and what it doesn’t. So go over your plan or give your insurer a call and keep yourself informed. The team at Sol Dental is also happy to call your insurance company to check your benefits when you come in for a consultation.

Is It Painful To Get A Dental Implant?

No. While dental implants do require surgery, the procedure is relatively painless. Dr. Orozco will use advanced numbing agents and anesthetics to prevent you from feeling any pain throughout the procedure.

In fact, you can even choose to be sedated throughout the procedure. This ensures that you will not feel any pain or discomfort while the post is implanted.

How Long Is The Recovery Process?

If you’ve had a wisdom tooth or any other tooth extraction, the recovery process for a dental implant will be familiar to you. You may experience some discomfort or bruising at the surgical site. Some bleeding is also not uncommon around the sutures. Usually, these symptoms will disappear within a few days.

After the side effects of surgery subside, you will still need to wait for a few months before your permanent implant is placed. This is because your implant post must undergo “Osseointegration”. This is the process by which it becomes bonded permanently with the surrounding gum and jaw.

Until your permanent crown is placed, you’ll wear a temporary crown or denture to protect the post, and ensure that you can speak and chew normally. But after you receive your permanent crown, you’ll be able to walk out of our office with a new, fully functional dental implant.
