Pediatric DentistThe Importance of Preventive Care and Education

At our office, we focus on preventing common childhood oral health issues and educating families about proper oral hygiene. Dr. Orozco (formerly Haendel) is always available to answer your oral health questions and provide you with the information you need to keep your child’s mouth healthy. By focusing on prevention and addressing small issues before they become more serious, we can help you save time and money, avoid emergency dental appointments, and empower your child to take the reigns of their oral health.

Prevent Cavities & More with Oral Exams and Teeth Cleanings

Regular, six-month oral exams and teeth cleanings are the most important part of any preventive dentistry strategy. Your child should begin seeing a dentist when their first tooth emerges, or after they turn one year old (whichever comes first). After their initial appointment, you should come to our office for an oral exam and teeth cleaning every six months. This ensures that Dr. Orozco (formerly Haendel) can catchy any concerning oral health issues early, and provide your child with the proper treatment before problems progress.

Reverse Minor Tooth Decay with Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride treatments use a highly-concentrated fluoride gel that is “painted” onto your child’s teeth and left in place for several minutes to strengthen the enamel. Fluoride has the unique ability to remineralize teeth, which can reverse minor tooth decay, and prevent the formation of a cavity. The process is fast, non-invasive, and can usually be performed alongside a standard six-month oral exam and cleaning.

Protect Teeth From Decay With Dental Sealants

Dental sealants consist of a liquid dental resin, which is used to coat the chewing surfaces of your child’s rear molars. This liquid resin hardens into a solid plastic barrier, which prevents oral bacteria, sugar, acids, and food particles from contacting the enamel directly. In turn, this helps prevent cavity formation, making it ideal for cavity-prone children. Best of all, sealants can last up to a decade, so they are a good long-term investment in your child’s oral health.
