If you’re interested in orthodontic correction using MTM Clear Aligners, Sol Dental in Tempe can help! Dr. Haendel has years of experience with clear plastic aligner systems like MTM Clear Aligners, and can help you get the smile that you’ve always wanted.
Wondering how to care for your oral health while you’re correcting your smile? Here are a few tips that will keep your smile healthy throughout your treatment:
1. Clean Your Teeth Thoroughly While Wearing MTM Clear Aligners
Oral hygiene is incredibly important when you are wearing MTM Clear Aligners. Since aligners are pushed against your teeth, this can trap oral bacteria and food debris near your teeth and gumline.
Brush your teeth at least twice a day while wearing your aligners. We also recommend flossing at least once per day, or using a Waterpik or a similar water flosser.
2. Avoid Stains And Damage To Your Aligners
MTM Clear Aligners are durable, but they can become stained if you wear them improperly. As a rule, you should only be drinking water while wearing your aligners. Other beverages that are colored, such as tea and soft drinks, or hot, such as coffee, can actually warp and stain your aligners.
3. Clean Your Aligners Every Night
Clean your aligners every night before you sleep. Ideally, you should do this after brushing your teeth, so that both your aligners and your teeth have minimal bacteria levels.
However, you shouldn’t use toothpaste to clean your aligners. Instead, use a mild antibacterial soap (many patients use dish soap). You can also soak your aligners in mouthwash every night, or use a cleaning kit designed specifically for MTM Clear Aligners.
4. Rinse Your Aligners Whenever You Remove Them
Immediately after you take your aligners out to eat or drink, or for any other reason, you should rinse them with cold water. This prevents your saliva from drying out and sticking to the plastic, which can increase bacteria levels.
5. NEVER Use Hot Water To Clean Aligners
MTM Clear Aligners are very sensitive to heat, and can become warped if they are cleaned with hot water. Always use cool or slightly-warm water to clean your aligners. If your aligners warp, you will need to invest in a replacement set, and this can delay your treatment and your results.
